Weekly Chuckle
I just read a list of the "100 Things To Do Before You Die," and I was pretty surprised that "Yell for help!" didn't make the list. If anyone is interested, I'll be signing books tomorrow at Barnes & Noble from 2 p.m. until whenever I'm escorted out by security.

What can two adults, 53 area students and a red pickup filled with scripts, costumes, a set and many props accomplish in a week? A production of Missoula Children's Theatre "Johnny Appleseed". The story of how Johnny Chapman became Johnny Appleseed was shared with family, friends and the community on May 7th & 8th at the Cavalier School. Keeping the production running smoothly and on time from backstage was MCT Tour Actor/Director Staci Weidner. She couldn't have done it without three amazing assistant directors of Tia Jensen, Madilyn Gauthier and Charlotte Crowston. The story was told by Gramma played by MCT Tour Actor/Director Erica Diederich. Her presence on the stage helped calm nerves and run the show. She shares the story of Johnny Appleseed with a group of Kiddoes who are tired of eating apples. The kiddoes were played by Edith Kemp, Dannika Bennett, Anja Schluchter, Tayden Markel, Lucy Vivatson, Emerson Helgoe, Nash Fitzsimonds, Dylan Adams and Audriey Longtine. The audience was treated with both a young Johnny Appleseed (Ava Kemnitz) and an old Johnny Appleseed (Brynn Devine) throughout the production. We find out that Johnny's best friend, Molly Prescott (Izzy Longtine) and her sisters (Shirley Kemp and Caitlin Johnson) would be moving west looking for a better life. This makes Johnny very sad until he decides to also head westplanting apple seeds along the way while trying to find his friend Molly. Johnny meets Sir Peter Prescott (Nora Crosby) and the sidekick Rupert (Fletcher Kemp) looking for Molly. This is where he finds thousands of apple seeds that are not used after apples go through the Cider Press. He grabs his Apple Seeds (Cain Furstenau, RJ Young Williams, Kiera Seng, Amelia Ratliff, Halle Olafson, Katherine Chepulis, Ruby Morrison, Sadie Kennedy, Winnie Crowston, Harloe Austfjord, Reese Safranski, Nathan Stegman and George Alfred Truver) and starts planting! Lewis and Clark (Keira Anderson and Kinzee Scholler) keep popping up and need to be reminded on which way west is to stay on the correct journey. The humorous duo of a talking Bison and Wolf (Colbie Furstenau and Mylee Gapp) become lifelong friends of Johnny's. They are given the task to teach all they meet the Apple Song. But Wolf forgets the important part of not chasing humans when he finds and chases Sarah Prescott (Bryelle Benavides). Thanks to Johnny, Sarah and the talking creatures become friends and Johnny learns that Sarah is Molly's granddaughter! On his journey he meets many people and critters and is able to create peace and friendship amongst different groups. The Pioneers (Katy Jensen, Jisha Patel, Ruby Horsley, Emma Seng, Caroline Stegman, Raegan Safranski, Naomi Stegman, Averie Sondeland and Aubry Ratliff) get in a tiff with each other and the Critters (Caleb Halvorson, McKenzie King, Joshua Halvorson, Clara Olafson, Kendra Briese, Ben Klein and Kyxa Burt) over, of all things, a swimming hole on a hot day. As in true MCT nature, friendship, loyalty and kindness, are a constant reminder throughout the production. In this week the kids learned their lines, dances and songs while having fun. We are so thankful for the support to bring MCT to Cavalier with donations and support from Cavalier PTO, Cavalier Thrift Store and Cavalier Community Foundation. Pictured above is the full cast from last week's performance. A big "well done" to the entire cast and crew! +
